VISHVARUUPAM HARINAM JAATAVEDASAM PARAAYANAM JYOTIREKAM APANTAAM | SAHASRARASHMIH SHATADHAA VARTAMAANAH PRAANAH PRAJAANAAMUDAYATYESHHA SUURYAH || The wise know him who is of universal form, full of rays, omniscient, the basis of all life, the one effulgent and great giver of heat. There rises the Sun of thousand rays, who is manifold in existence and the life of all creatures. 

ATHAADITYA UDAYANYATPRAACHIIM DISHAM PRAVISHATI TENA PRAACHYAAN.H PRAANAAN RASHMISHHU SANNIDHATTE | YADDAKSHINAAM YATH PRATIICHIIM YADUDIICHIIM YADADHO YADUURDHVAM YADANTARAA DISHO YATH SARVAM PRAKAASHAYATI TENA SARVAAN PRAANAAN RASHMISHHU SANNIDHATTE || Now, when the sun having risen enters the East, by that, he holds the eastern lives in his rays. When he illuminates the south, the west, the north, the Zenith, the Nadir, the intermediate quarters, and all by that, he holds all the lives (pranas) in his rays. Note: The Sruti asserts here that wherever there is a manifestation of life and energy, it is due to the quickening influence of the sun.

PRAJAAKAAMO VAI PRAJAAPATIH SA TAPO.ATAPYATA SA TAPASTAPTVAA SA MITHUNAMUTPAADAYATE | RAYIM CHA PRANAM CHETYETAU ME BAHUDHAA PRAJAAH KARISHHYATA ITI || The Creator was desirous of progeny. With this in view, he performed penance and having performed penance, created the pair, the Matter (Rayi) and the Energy (Prana) thinking that together they would produce creatures in various ways.

Just finished reading "Prashna Upanishad" or "Prashnopanishad".  Associated with the Atharva Veda, the text consists of 6 questions and their answers, hence the name Prashna (question) - Upanishad.  As narrated in the beginning of this Upanishad, Six pupils interested in knowing divinity or Brahman come to sage Pippalada and request him to clarify their spiritual doubts. Instead of answering immediately, Pippalada asks them to take up penance and Brahmacharya for one year at his place. Upon completion of one year, pupils ask the sage, then the sage answers their questions. Each of them asks one question to Pippalada and answer(s) to it forms a chapter in the ancient Upanishad. So interesting and informative..!! The MFI posts hereafter (from MFI 33) will be taken from the Prashna Upanishad. The verses are transliterated into English from the original Sanskrit text. The meanings are the English translations of the Sanskrit verses. 

OM BHADRAM KARNEBHIH SHRINUYAAMA DEVAA BHADRAM PASHHYEMAAKSHABHIRYAJATRAAH | STHIRAIRANGAISTUSHHTUVAAM SASTANUUBHIHI VYASHEMA DEVAHITAM YADAAYUH || Om, O Gods, May we hear auspicious words with our ears, O Worshipful One, May we see auspicious things with our eyes, May we live our entire life cheerfully in perfect health and strength offering our praises unto thee.
